There were only very few Government and Aided colleges in the district to meet the demands of the students. Thus the educational enthusiasts and social workers formed a Co operative society by name GEMS Cooperative Society under the Chairmanship of Constituency MLA, in which people from all walks of life irrespective of the Caste, Creed, and Politics joined as members of the Co Operative Society to start a College to cater to the educational needs of the people. Thus, GEMS College was founded
since the institution is located in an underdeveloped backward area of the hilly district of Malappuram, it has become an asylum for thousands of students who are hailing from rural and backward areas. Even the very name of the district ‘Malappuram’ denotes the meaning ‘on the hilltop’ is an indicator that shows the geographical features of the area.
