The Women Development Cell (WDC) and PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College Autonomous successfully organized a program in association with the Department of Women and Child Development on "Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005" on 10th September 2025 at MP Narayana Menon Hall to raise awareness and empower students against domestic violence.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Ashima Thodengal, Assistant Professor and WDC Coordinator, who set the tone for the event. This was followed by a presidential address by Ms. Sulthana Afroza PP, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature, who emphasized the significance of the Domestic Violence Act 2005 and the role of institutions in promoting awareness and support for survivors.
The highlight of the program was the guest talk by Ms. Sruthi T M, Women Protection Officer, Women and Child Development Department, Malappuram. She provided valuable insights into the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act and offered practical advice on supporting survivors. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Sreeparvathy, a student of III Semester English.
The outcomes aligned with SDGs focusing on Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The event successfully sensitised students about domestic violence, its impact, and the importance of supporting survivors, empowering them to take informed actions and promote a culture of equality, justice, and respect.
