The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), successfully organized the Association Inauguration Ceremony of “SOCIORA” on 22 January 2026 at 11:00 AM in the MP Narayana Menon Hall. The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Ms. Anitha Parveen J, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students, and highlighted the relevance of the association in promoting academic excellence, leadership, and professional competence among social work students.
The ceremony was formally inaugurated by Mr. Subeesh, District Probation Officer, Malappuram, who delivered the inaugural address. He emphasized the critical role of social workers in probation services, juvenile justice systems, and community welfare, and encouraged students to uphold ethical practice and social commitment. The programme featured felicitations by Dr. Abdul Samad Wise, Principal, who appreciated the initiatives of the Department of Social Work and motivated students to actively participate in academic and extension activities. Ms. Gopika M and Mr. Sarath K, faculty members of the Department of Social Work, also offered felicitations, emphasizing the importance of student associations in developing leadership and teamwork.
A special felicitation was extended to Ms. Firousiya, Association Secretary, in recognition of her contribution to organizing and coordinating departmental activities.During the programme, awards were distributed to students in recognition of their academic excellence in semester examinations and for other achievements, motivating students to strive for higher performance. The inaugural session witnessed the participation of around 40 postgraduate students, along with faculty members of the department.
Following the formal session, the programme continued in the afternoon with cultural programmes organized by the students. The cultural events provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their talents through various performances, fostering creativity, unity, and a sense of belonging within the department. The cultural session added an engaging and celebratory dimension to the association inauguration. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Anas Tharakan, Faculty, Department of Social Work, who expressed sincere gratitude to the chief guest, principal, faculty members, student coordinators, and participants for their collective efforts in making the programme successful.
