In connection with the Blood Donor Day initiative, the first-year MSW students of the PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, conducted an observation visit at Government Hospital, Perinthalmanna on Monday, 16th June 2025.
The visit was coordinated and accompanied by Mr. Sarath, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Social Work. The students were divided into two groups, and introductory sessions were conducted for each group. Ms. Sajna, Blood Bank Counselor, provided a comprehensive briefing on pre-donation and post-donation counseling procedures. During the visit, students had the opportunity to closely observe various stages of blood collection, storage, and component separation, including platelets and plasma. This visit significantly enhanced the students’ understanding of the practical aspects of blood donation and transfusion services. It also provided valuable insights into the role of counseling in ensuring donor safety and satisfaction, while improving awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation in healthcare.
Additionally, the visit strengthened the students’ practical exposure and professional learning in the field of medical social work. The program concluded with a group photo session, marking the successful completion of the observation visit
