The PG Department of Social Work organized Alumni Lecture Series-6 was conducted on July 18, 2025, from 10 am to 11 am in the PG block (room no 901). The topic was “The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 and Major Schemes by the Social Justice Department.” The speaker was Muhammad Kasim, Technical Assistant, Sub Collector, Perinthalmanna. Total number of 27 students where participated .
The Act aims to protect the economic, social, and mental welfare of senior citizens in India. Key provisions include maintenance and financial support from children or legal heirs to senior citizens or parents who can’t take care of themselves, protection against abuse and neglect, and tribunals for maintenance disputes at the district level.
Awareness about the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, was expected to be raised among participants. Understanding of major schemes by the Social Justice Department for senior citizens and discussion on the implementation and impact of the Act were also expected outcomes.
