ALUMNI LECTURE SERIES –13- PG DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK

The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, conducted Alumni Lecture Series – 13 on 24 February 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Room No. 902 (PG Block). The session on the topic “Role of Social Worker in Community Based Care” was delivered by Ms. Shifla C (2020–2022 Batch), Community Development Officer at Ability Foundation for the Disabled, Malappuram. The programme began with a warm welcome address by Fathima Najwa N, who highlighted the importance of alumni interaction in connecting academic learning with field practice. A total of 31 students participated in the programme.

During the session, the resource person shared her professional journey and provided detailed insights into community-based care and rehabilitation. She explained the various roles and responsibilities of a social worker in community settings, including assessment, intervention, case management, multidisciplinary coordination, community mobilization, and advocacy for persons with disabilities. She also discussed practical challenges faced in fieldwork and strategies to address them. The session was interactive, and students actively engaged in discussions and clarified their doubts regarding practice and career opportunities.

The programme successfully achieved its intended outcomes, as participants gained clear understanding and valuable information about the role of social workers in community-based care. The session enhanced their practical knowledge, awareness of professional responsibilities, and insight into real-life field experiences. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Naheema M C, expressing gratitude to the resource person and all participants for making the session meaningful and informative.
