GEMS Arts and Science College, in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology, University of Calicut, successfully conducted the first lecture in the Popular Lecture Series, sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, at the University of Calicut on 2nd August 2025 . The lecture was delivered by Prof. C. Gopinathan, Department of Biotechnology, on the topic “High Rate Biomethanation: Scale-Up Issues and Opportunities.” In his talk, Prof. Gopinathan discussed the potential of biomethanation as a sustainable waste-to-energy technology and highlighted the critical challenges faced during the scale-up process of biomethanation systems. The lecture marked an important step in promoting awareness of advanced biotechnological applications and encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue. The Popular Lecture Series aims to bring together experts and learners on a common platform to discuss contemporary scientific issues and foster a spirit of inquiry.
The lecture was very much appreciated by the students of nearby schools, colleges and the faculties attended the function. Prof. Anu Joseph Head of the Department Biotechnology, other faculties, Dr.Sandhya Balakrishnan Principal Investigator of the project, and Dr.A Finose Director IQAC along with the faculties from GEMS college also attended the function. The session was well-received and appreciated by all attendees for its relevance and academic depth.
