The eighth Academic and Research Review Committee meeting of GEMS
Arts and Science College was held on 24th January 2026 from 10:30 AM onwards at Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre, Library and Research Centre at the college campus. Dr.B G Unni, Director- Academic & Research and Chairman of the ARRC presented the overview of the research and academic activities such as projects related, patents and other activities undertaken in the college by the students and faculties during the period from 1stJuly to 31st December 2025. He also explained the achievements of both faculties and students in different fields . Dr.Naveen Mohan, Principal, presented the overall progress of the college in terms of academics, research, initiation of add on courses, certificate courses and infrastructure development of the institution.
Review meeting under progress with the faculties and experts
The progress of academic and research activities of each department, and future action plan were presented by the respective Head of the Departments. Each department described their highlights, achievements, different activities organized by the departments and their action plans. Achievements of the faculties and students in academic/sports and extracurricular activities were detailed by Dr. Abdussamed, Vice Principal, GEMS Arts and Science College. The external experts present in the review meetings were Dr. A Hameed, Professor, Department of Education, University of Calicut and Dr. KV Suseela, Department of Microbiology, Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur, also gave various suggestions and recommendations on short- and long-term basis for the college. The other two external members ( Dr.R.Dinesh, Director ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research , Calicut & Prof. Dr. N P Hafiz Mohammed, Former Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Calicut) could not attend the review
meeting due to unavoidable reasons. The experts were satisfied with the progress that the institution has made during the assessment period. Dr.Hameed appreciated faculties and management for following the recommendations of previous ARRC. He made observations such as conducting the International Expert’s Lecture Series, Nexus journal, achievements in patents and had a great appreciation when compared to other institutions. Dr. Hameed appreciated the institution’s initiative in introducing seed money grants to promote research among faculty members. Additionally, he commended the college for obtaining SWAYAM Local Chapter status and recommended ensuring complete registration of students in SWAYAM/MOOC courses. Dr. Suseela appreciated Research and Academic Director for his achievement from his former position in the University. She appreciated the seed money grant provided by the management to carry out research work . Dr. B. G. Unni, Academic and Research Director, reviewed the proceedings of the meeting and emphasized the importance of strengthening research activities within the institution. Shri P. T. Hamsa, Director, GEMS Arts and Science College, felicitated the gathering and appreciated the progress of the college at all levels. Shri Vasudevan M, Vice Chairman, Vice Chairman, felicitated the gathering and delivered the concluding remarks of the meeting. He spoke about the recently inaugurated Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor Laboratory, and outlined plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence into the curriculum for the upcoming academic year 2026–2027..As an initial step, the management proposed organizing training programmes in AI for faculty members. He also pointed out that the existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were not fully functional and emphasized the need to activate and effectively utilize them. Additionally, he stressed the importance of strengthening the research ecosystem through increased research publications. He further highlighted the role of mentoring in shaping the character and behaviour of students, thereby fostering a vibrant academic community. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nayana P, Research Officer, GEMS Arts and Science College
