17th Chairman’s Lecture Series organized by GEMS Arts & Science College (Autonomous) Malappuram, Kerala on 11th July 2026 at the college campus


The 17th Chairman’s Lecture Series was held at Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre at 10.30 AM onwards on 11th July 2026. The 17thChairman’s Lecture Series organized by IQAC GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) jointly with the Society of Biological Chemist -North East Chapter via hybrid mode .. The lecture was delivered by an eminent personality, Prof. (Dr.) Anandakuttan B Unnithan, Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, on “Responsible Corporate Leadership”. The program commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Naveen Mohan, Principal of the college.

 

Soon after the welcome speech, the session was led by Shri. Manjalamkuzhi Ali, Honorable Chairman, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous). He briefly explained the progress and achievements of the institution for the last few years.  After

his speech, Dr. Balagopalan Unni, Academic and Research Director, presented a brief introduction about the Chairman’s Lecture Series, as the best platform introduced for the students and faculties of the College. He also mentioned the previous lectures led by the reputed personalities from within Kerala outside Kerala and abroad as well. Dr. Unni introducd briefly about the distinguished chief guest of the day.

The rapid growth of technology has redefined business models and leadership approaches, said Dr. Anandakuttan B. Unnithan, a management expert and professor at IIM Kozhikode. He was speaking on 'Responsible Corporate Leadership' as part of the Chairman's Lecture Series at GEMS Arts and Science College.Technology has led to radical changes in the social, economic and industrial sectors of the world. A great idea grows into a successful business venture when it is combined with the needs of society. He said that business should be a system that includes social responsibility along with the elements of service, investment and profit. He pointed out that society needs leadership that can find responsible and far-sighted solutions to the challenges posed by the global economy, and that irresponsible decisions and leadership will jeopardize the credibility and very survival of institutions. He said that leadership is formed from a clear sense of purpose and value-based actions, and that the responsible corporate leadership of the future should be shaped by the young generation that can integrate technology, innovation, and social commitment He added that it is the necessity of the times to change the aversion to job opportunities and develop skills and an entrepreneurial spirit. The speaker provides a comprehensive explanation on how business and technologies provide better quality of living, its role in corporate leadership with Patagonia as instance. Throughout the discussion, how shareholders and stakeholders are important in business has been criticized in detail. The speaker highlighted how CSR addresses global challenges and how innovation in business and technology can contribute to sustainable development

. He also discussed landmark regulations that have strengthened corporate governance and responsible business practices. Dr. Anandakuttan illustrated the impact of responsible and irresponsible leadership and cited examples such as Apple, Microsoft, and Alphabet forresponsible leadership and innovation, while discussing leadership failures in various companies to demonstrate the consequences of unethical business practices due to irresponsible leadership. He concluded with the message that responsible leadership is no longer optional but an essential requirement for the success of the organization. Following his speech, there was an interactive session with students and faculties of the institution. Vasudevan Master, Vice Chairman delivered the felicitation speech. The lecture was attended by the faculties of GEMS college, and also provided facilities (In hybrid mode) for the persons attending from other parts of the Kertala.. The program was concluded with a vote of gratitude by Ms, Ranjusha VP, Director-IQAC, GEMS Arts and Science College
