HISTORY AND SCIENCE OF RAMAN EFFECT
The National Science Day Celebration was organized on 28.02.2023 to commemorate the importance of science and scientific discoveries in society. The event aimed to create awareness about scientific advancements, promote scientific temper and inspire young minds to pursue scientific knowledge and research. The Chief Guest was Dr. P Raveendran, Professor, Department of Chemistry, and Former Dean, Faculty of Sciences, University of Calicut. Inauguration and the National Science Day celebration began at 1:30 PM (Venue: GEMS Theatre) with an opening ceremony. The significance of National Science Day and its theme for the year were highlighted. Dr. P Raveendran delivered a highly anticipated lecture on the topic "History and Science of Raman Effect”. The lecture shed light on the life and work of Sir C. V. Raman, the discovery of the Raman Effect, and its impact on the field of spectroscopy. Dr. Raveendran elaborated on the experimental setup, theoretical understanding, and practical applications of the Raman Effect. The lecture provided valuable insights into the scientific process and its contributions to advancements in various scientific disciplines. Following the lecture, an interactive session was conducted, allowing the audience to ask questions and engage in discussions with Dr. P Raveendran. Attendees enthusiastically participated, seeking clarification on specific aspects of the Raman Effect and its relevance to current research and technologies. Various competitions such as Quiz, Essay Writing, Face painting and Cue card were organized to encourage active participation and foster scientific curiosity. Overall, the National Science Day celebration was a tremendous success, providing a platform to celebrate scientific achievements, inspire young minds, and promote scientific awareness. The lecture by Dr. P Raveendran on the history and science of the Raman Effect added significant value to the event, enriching the scientific knowledge and curiosity of the participants. About 79 participants were present for the program.
