Inter-Collegiate Film Screening and Discussion

The Department of Multimedia and Film Club of GEMS Arts and Science College organized an Inter Collegiate Film Screening and Discussion on 18th August 2025. The event was conducted in association with Majlis Arts and Science College, Puramannur, and Malabar College of Advanced Studies, Vengara. The theme of the program was “A Cinematic Journey to Promoting Human Rights and Values.”
The featured film for the screening was “The Terminal” directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film, which deals with themes of humanity, dignity, resilience, and human rights, was chosen to inspire students to reflect on the importance of values in contemporary society. Following the screening, an interactive discussion session was held where students shared their perspectives on the film and its relevance to human rights and cultural values.
Students of the Department of Multimedia, GEMS College actively participated in the program. Additionally, a few invited students from Majlis Arts and Science College, Puramannur, and Malabar College of Advanced Studies, Vengara, also joined the event. Faculty members from the Department of Multimedia and representatives of the Film Club were also present, guiding the discussion session.
The program proved to be highly engaging and insightful. Students not only enjoyed the cinematic experience but also gained a deeper understanding of human rights and values through the narrative of the film. The inter-collegiate participation added diversity to the discussions, enriching the viewpoints shared. The session successfully met its objective of promoting critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and the role of cinema as a tool for social awareness.
