“Powering Innovation with Intellectual Property Awareness”

The Department of Management Studies, in association with the Department of Travel and Tourism Management, conducted an awareness programme titled “Powering Innovation with Intellectual Property Awareness” on 31st March 2026 at 11:30 AM in the MP Narayana Menon Hall, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram.
The resource person, Adv. T. G. Madhavan Unni, a practicing lawyer in business, corporate laws, and taxation, delivered an informative and engaging session. He explained the concept of intellectual property and highlighted the significance of protecting inventions, creative works, designs, and brand identities. The speaker elaborated on different types of intellectual property such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, and geographical indications. He also discussed the legal procedures involved in registration and protection of intellectual property.
The session included practical examples and real-life case discussions which helped students understand the importance of IPR in business development and innovation. The resource person also emphasized the consequences of plagiarism, piracy, and copyright violations, and encouraged students to adopt originality in academic and professional work. The session aimed to provide fundamental knowledge about various forms of intellectual property and their relevance in business, corporate practices, and modern industries.
An interactive question and answer session was conducted at the end, where students actively participated and clarified doubts regarding IPR registration and its applications in various industries. A total of 89 participants attended the programme and submitted feedback. The overall response was positive, and the programme was found to be highly informative and beneficial for students.
