ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP

The Department of Arabic, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) organized World Arabic Day on 18 December by
conducting an Arabic Calligraphy Workshop from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the classroom. The programme aimed to highlight the cultural
and artistic richness of the Arabic language and to familiarize students with the traditional art of Arabic calligraphy.The programme
commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Mohammed Irshad K.K., Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, who emphasized
the global importance of Arabic and the relevance of celebrating World Arabic Day. He also highlighted the significance of Arabic
calligraphy as a classical art form that reflects the beauty and depth of the Arabic language.The session was handled by Dr. Khalid C. T.,
Associate Professor, Department of Arabic, SNGS College, Pattambi, who served as the resource person. He delivered an
engaging and informative session on the history, evolution, and styles of Arabic calligraphy, including Kufi, Naskh, Thuluth, and
Diwani. The session also focused on the aesthetic principles and techniques involved in calligraphy.
A hands-on practice session followed, during which students actively participated by practicing basic calligraphic strokes and letter
formations. Dr. Khalid demonstrated correct pen handling, spacing,and stylistic elements, which helped students understand the practical
aspects of Arabic calligraphy.The workshop received enthusiastic participation from students, who showed great interest and
creativity throughout the session. The interactive nature of the programme enriched their appreciation of Arabic art and culture.The
programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mohammed Irshad K.K., Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, who
expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person, the college management, faculty members, and students for their valuable support
and cooperation in making the programme a success
