The PG Department of Applied Geology, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a gender-related webinar on “Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in Geoscience” on April 8, 2025. The session was led by Dr. Raicy M. C., Scientist–B at the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode, as part of the department’s initiative to promote gender equity and inclusivity in Earth sciences.

Dr. Raicy delivered an inspiring talk highlighting the role, challenges, and achievements of women in geoscience. She emphasized the importance of women’s participation in scientific research, fieldwork, and leadership positions, noting that gender diversity enhances innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving in geoscientific studies. Drawing from her own experiences in hydrogeological research, she shared valuable insights on overcoming barriers, balancing field challenges, and fostering resilience in scientific careers.
The session also shed light on the historical and contemporary contributions of women geoscientists globally and in India, encouraging young female students to pursue careers in geology, environmental science, and related fields. Dr. Raicy discussed various government initiatives, research opportunities, and scholarship programs that support women in STEM disciplines.
The webinar witnessed enthusiastic participation of 30 attendees from students and faculty members who actively engaged in the interactive Q&A session, raising thoughtful questions about gender representation, mentorship, and work-life balance in the geoscience profession.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Anju lekshmi., I M.Sc. Geology Student, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person for her inspiring address and to all participants for their active involvement.
Overall, the webinar was a motivational and empowering session, reaffirming the importance of gender inclusivity and equal opportunities in geosciences and inspiring the next generation of women to lead and innovate in the field.
