PG DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE TOPIC: AN INTRODUCTION TO COPYRIGHT IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

The PG Department of English Language and Literature, in association with the IPR Cell, organized a program titled "An Introduction to Copyright in Intellectual Property Rights" on 27th March 2026 at M. P. Narayana Menon Hall. The session was conducted for the benefit of Fourth Semester B.A. English and Fourth Semester M.A. English students.The program commenced with a formal welcome, highlighting the relevance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in contemporary academic and creative domains. The session aimed to provide students with a foundational understanding of copyright laws and their significance in safeguarding original works. The resource person for the session was Dr. Deepthi V. C.,Assistant Professor, PG Department of General Biotechnology. She delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the fundamentals of copyright, explaining key concepts such as ownership, fair use, plagiarism, and legal protections available to creators. She also emphasized the importance of respecting intellectual property in academic writing, research, and creative practices.
Dr. Deepthi illustrated real-world examples and case studies to make the session more interactive and accessible. She clarified common misconceptions about copyright and provided guidance on how students can ethically use and cite sources in their academic work. The session was highly informative and encouraged students to be more responsible and aware creators and users of intellectual content.
An interactive question and answer session followed, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts regarding copyright issues and academic integrity. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person for her valuable contribution, as well as to the organizing committee and participants for making the session a success. Overall, the program was highly beneficial in enhancing students' awareness of copyright and intellectual property rights, equipping them with essential knowledge relevant to their academic and professional pursuits. Total 29 students are participated in this program.
