As part of its extension and outreach initiatives, the Department of Computer Science, GVHSS Pullanur, organized an Expert Interaction Programme titled “Databases in the Era of Big Data and Cloud Computing” on 20th January 2026 at 11:00 AM for second year DBDO students. The programme was conducted with the support of IQAC to extend academic exposure beyond the regular curriculum and to familiarize students with contemporary developments in database technologies. The initiative aimed to strengthen industry–academia linkage and enhance students’ understanding of real-world applications of databases in modern computing environments.
The session was handled by Mr. Anoos Babu P K, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, who served as the external expert for the programme. He delivered a comprehensive lecture on the transformation of traditional databases in the context of big data and cloud computing. The talk covered topics such as the evolution of database systems, relational and NoSQL databases, data scalability, cloud-based storage solutions, security challenges, and the growing demand for data-driven technologies. Practical illustrations and real-time use cases were incorporated to make the session engaging and relevant for higher secondary students.
The extension activity witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who actively interacted with the resource person and clarified their academic and career-related queries. The programme significantly contributed to enhancing students’ awareness of emerging IT domains such as data science, cloud computing, and database administration. The Department of Computer Science and IQAC jointly acknowledged the programme as a meaningful outreach effort that promoted experiential learning and career orientation, and recommended the organization of similar extension activities in the future to support holistic student development.
