Informative session on Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Era

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the IPR Cell, organized an informative session on Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Era on 23rd October 2025. The event was held in the BCA classroom from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 26 students from the department.
The session aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the modern digital landscape. The resource person for the session was Dr. Deepthi V. C., Assistant Professor, PG Department of Biotechnology, who elaborated on various aspects of IPR, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, and digital content protection. Special emphasis was placed on the challenges and opportunities that arise in safeguarding digital creations such as software, multimedia, and online publications.
Students were introduced to the significance of respecting intellectual property and understanding the legal frameworks that protect creators in cyberspace. Dr. Deepthi also discussed real-life cases of digital piracy, plagiarism, and patent violations, highlighting how technological advancements have transformed the concept of ownership and creativity.
The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to ask questions and share their views on topics such as open-source software, digital innovation, and ethical content use. The event successfully deepened their understanding of how intellectual property laws apply to digital works and emphasized the need for responsible and lawful use of online resources.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bijili mubeen of S1 BCA, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Deepthi V. C., the faculty members, and the organizing team for conducting such an insightful and thought-provoking program. Overall, the event proved to be highly informative, inspiring students to value and protect intellectual property in their academic and professional pursuits.
