GEMS DigiVista - For Digitally Empowered Campus.’

OBJECTIVES OF THE PRACTICE

GEMS DigiVista is a digitalized governance framework offering transparent accessibility to resources from anywhere to the stakeholders, primarily to the students, and rendering Service to the society.

GEMS DigiVista is

  • To support and simplify governance of the institution.
  • To create an integrated digital ecosystem for all stakeholders.
  • To guarantee timely and effective administration of services and information.
  • To ensure enhanced Participatory learning experience.
  • To support Digital India Vision, thereby creating a digitally inclusive society.

CONTEXT OF THE PRACTICE

Digital India Vision is a comprehensive initiative launched by Hon. Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi on July 1, 2015. It aimed at transforming the Country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. This project had a positive influence in our College. Our college, through digitalization, optimized its performance in governance as well as academics. To save time and energy, manual process of admissions of students were replaced with a digitalized system, where students were admitted after three-stage verification of data. Since the entered data was stored in cloud, retrieval of any student at any point of time or level of governance is possible with ease, thus eliminating data redundancy. Reduction in paperwork and ease of documentation encouraged all to follow the digital exercises. The Institution keeping in mind the Country's need for digital literacy, organizes various programs for Kudumbashree, Casual labourers and Community thereby extending the Idea of Digital India.

THE PRACTICE

GEMS DigiLit, the institution promotes program for digital literacy for Kudumbashree workers, casual labourers, homemakers and parents.

GCSC(GEMS Common Service Center) acts as a Nodal Center for all to clear doubts regarding Common Online Services related to Passport, Aadhar, Voter’s ID,Common Entrance Exams.

GDW(GEMS Digital Wing), coordinates all the digital activities with regard to Curriculum transaction and Evaluation.

GEMS E-Content Development Center, respond to all digital needs of the Campus.The centre co ordinates all the programs and its documentations

GEMS Digital Library, creates audiobooks for differently enabled persons. The Wi-Fi enabled campus really helps the students to access the digital world. The institution has ICT-enabled classrooms. The fully automated Library Management System with digitalized access controls and foot fall tracking using kiosks

EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS

Prompt, Transparent, and user-friendly admission process. Attendance tracking enables students to know their status and improve attendance. Progress of a student can be assessed anytime, both by teachers and parents. The system of tracking gave much confidence to the parents.Time-saving procedure for students and parents to remit fees. Hassle-free book issue and return. The practice is making library visit happy, happier, and happiest for both teachers and students. DigiVista ensures safety at hostel and during transportation.

GEMS DigiLit, started for creating digitally driven society was truly a good venture and it supported the Society well. Kudumbasree workers and other casual Labourers are mostly benefitted out of the various awareness sessions conducted in the instituion. .

Online doubt clearance Center of GCSC (Gems Common Service Centre) used to have a lot of Calls and Messages from the community outside our campus. Our prompt system of answering and helping benefited a lot of people in the community.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOURCES REQUIRED

1.Since the entire campus activities are accessible online, it had to be protected from different types of security threats.

2.Adaptation-Changing from a conventional system to a digital environment had a lot of resistance from staff, which was overcome by training programs and awareness sessions

3.Internet issue, even though a dedicated internet is present in the campus, at times problems do arise from low-quality internet, which interferes with the speed of the process.

1It is to be mentioned that College ERP software is a tailor-made software developed by Mincetech Pvt. Ltd. with the collaboration of the Institution. The needs of the institution from time to time were processed and intercalated in the software. The Chief Technical Officer the entire software is an alumnus of this Institution.
