WEBINAR WAS ON EMPOWERMENT AND PROTECTING CHILDREN DURING COVID -19
A webinar was conducted by the Department of Sociology and Social work, GEMS Arts and Science College, Malappuram in association with Attapadi Adivasi Development Initiative (AADI), Palakkad, on 24-7-2020, 2.30 pm onwards as part of 2nd semester online internship of at AADI. The webinar was on the topic- Empowerment and Protecting Children During COVID -19 Outbreak, by Mr. Saleem. C P, District Childline Coordinator, Malappuram. The session was begun with a welcome speech by Mrs. Sasiya Afrin, MSW 3rd semester student and a trainee of AADI. The Inaugural session was held by Mr. Vasudevan, Vice Chairman of GEMS college. The welcoming of resource person was done by the Head of the Department, Dr. Mirshad Rahman. T. M. The session was very informative as the resource person was of much experienced with his profession. There were almost 70 participants of different status like students, professionals, parents etc. in the webinar. The session was mentored by Ms. Sujisha and Ms. Midhuna who were MSW 3rd semester students and trainee of AADI. The session was hosted by Mr. Sayyed Thahseen. The session was effective and interactive. In the session Mr. Saleem CP resource person discussed about child rights, POCSO Act, child abuse, parenting care, and he also shared his experiences and added his suggestions related with child abuse. The session also includes power point presentation and it continues for almost 2 hours. After the session there was a feedback session. The feedbacks were given by Fr. Lenin Antony, Director of AADI, Mr. Vibinlal, Project coordinator of AADI, Dr. Mirshad Rahman T M, HOD and some of the delegates and mentors. The feedback results were good. The webinar was winded up with a vote of thanks by Ms. Praveena, MSW 3rd semester student and a trainee of AADI at 4.30 PM.

PRA CAMP VATTAVADA, IDUKKI
A two-day PRA workshop was organized under the leadership of PG Department of Social Work and Sociology, Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram for first year MSW students. The PRA workshop was held at Vattavada, idukki at 01/02/2020. 16 students were participated in the program. The objectives of the workshop were to familiarize the students with the basic concepts of PRA and its importance, usage and application in community-need analysis process, to introduce the different tools used in PRA and to develop skills in conducting PRA exercise with communities. Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is an approach used by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other agencies involved in international development. The approach aims to incorporate the knowledge and opinions of rural people in the planning and management of development projects and programmes. On the first day the students were divided into 4 groups namely Lilly, Rose, Jasmine and marigold. The resource person discussed the theoretical aspects of PRA with the group. He explained the definition and principles that form the basis of PRA, the principles i.e. participation, flexibility, teamwork, optimal ignorance and systematic approach. The second part of the discussion on the first day was on the tools of PRA namely social mapping, wealth ranking, transect walk, resource mapping, seasonality analysis, time line and trend analysis, Venn diagram, matrix scoring and skill mapping. Day one of the workshop was used to make the students familiar with the concepts of PRA and its usages. On the Second day the teams were given specific techniques to be implemented in PRA to find out the issues and understand the process of PRA by its application. The students were taken vattavada Village for the practical application. The trainees were given the responsibility to implement seasonality analysis and resource mapping, team lilly was given ven diagram and social mapping to implement, rose had to implement transect walk and Mission mark to implement wealth ranking and matrix ranking. The students after the hands on experience had an evaluation session where each team presented their leanings and challenges. The mistakes and shortcomings in conducting PRA were discussed by the resource person. Overall it was good learning experience for the students.
