The NSS GEMS Unit embarked on a heartwarming initiative that is SNEHA PUTHAPP Conducted on 24th June 2019, that epitomized compassion and social responsibility by distributing unused blankets that had been left over from students' homes to those who were shivering on the cold streets. This simple yet impactful gesture not only provided much-needed warmth to those in need but also exemplified the unit's dedication to making a positive difference in the community.In the initial phase of the project, the NSS GEMS Unit distributed blankets to approximately 25 individuals who were facing the harsh realities of the streets. As winter's chill settled in, these blankets became more than just pieces of fabric; they symbolized hope, care, and a sense of belonging. The act of giving was met with gratitude and appreciation, as recipients felt the warmth not only from the blankets but also from the kindness extended to them The initiative transcended the mere act of charity, fostering a deeper connection between the NSS GEMS Unit and the community it aimed to serve. OLD AGE HOME VISIT
The Old Age Home visit organized by the NSS GEMS Unit 2019 on 4th March 2019. The significance of the day went beyond just an outreach activity; it left an indelible mark on the hearts of all participants. The destination was Thrissur Snehatheeram Vriddha Sadanam, a place that housed a diverse group of elderly individuals, each with their own stories and experiences to share. Total number of volunteers visited were 40. Upon arrival, the initial interactions were met with a mix of responses. Some residents remained reserved and distant, not immediately engaging with the visitors. However, as time progressed, the warmth and genuine intentions of the NSS team began to break down barriers. Gathered in a circle, the NSS team and the elderly residents sang songs that spanned across generations. The pure delight in the eyes of the elderly as they swayed to the music illustrated how even the simplest of gestures could bring immense happiness. The shared experience of song and laughter created a lasting memory, leaving an impression that went far beyond the time spent together. By the end of the visit, it was clear that a profound bond had formed between the NSS GEMS Unit and the residents of Snehatheeram Vriddha Sadanam. What began as a tentative encounter blossomed into a connection based on understanding, empathy, and genuine care.
