OLD AGE HOME VISIT
The Old Age Home visit organized by the NSS GEMS Unit 2019 on 4th March 2019. The significance of the day went beyond just an outreach activity; it left an indelible mark on the hearts of all participants. The destination was Thrissur Snehatheeram Vriddha Sadanam, a place that housed a diverse group of elderly individuals, each with their own stories and experiences to share. Total number of volunteers visited were 40. Upon arrival, the initial interactions were met with a mix of responses. Some residents remained reserved and distant, not immediately engaging with the visitors. However, as time progressed, the warmth and genuine intentions of the NSS team began to break down barriers. Gathered in a circle, the NSS team and the elderly residents sang songs that spanned across generations. The pure delight in the eyes of the elderly as they swayed to the music illustrated how even the simplest of gestures could bring immense happiness. The shared experience of song and laughter created a lasting memory, leaving an impression that went far beyond the time spent together. By the end of the visit, it was clear that a profound bond had formed between the NSS GEMS Unit and the residents of Snehatheeram Vriddha Sadanam. What began as a tentative encounter blossomed into a connection based on understanding, empathy, and genuine care. The event not only enriched the lives of the elderly individuals but also left an enduring impact on the young participants, reminding them of the importance of compassion, companionship, and the lasting effects of reaching out to those in need.
