NATURE CAMP
Under the auspices of the GEMS NSS Unit, a remarkable three-day nature camp titled 'Into the Wild' was meticulously organized for enthusiastic NSS volunteers, spanning from March 10th to March 13th of 2021. This extraordinary event was set against the backdrop of the awe-inspiring Periyar Tiger Reserve in Thekkady. The camp stood as a testament to the unit's commitment to holistic learning, environmental awareness, and fostering a deep connection with nature. Embarking on an exciting journey, the participants set off from the college at the late hour of 8 PM on March 10th. The nighttime departure added an element of adventure to the entire experience. As the volunteers ventured into the wilderness, they were infused with a sense of anticipation, camaraderie, and a shared willingness to explore the natural world that awaited them. Nestled within the Periyar Tiger Reserve, the camp became a canvas for creating lasting memories. The serene surroundings, lush foliage, and the diverse wildlife of Thekkady served as the perfect backdrop for a comprehensive nature immersion. This experience went beyond classroom learning, offering the volunteers a chance to interact with the environment firsthand, thereby deepening their understanding of the importance of nature conservation. On June 22nd, 2021, the NSS GEMS unit organized an insightful webinar titled "COVID Stress Busters," in collaboration with VPS Lakeshore Hospital Kochi. This timely initiative aimed to address the escalating stress levels brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Led by Dr. Xavier PJ, the Head of the Psychiatry and De-addiction Department at VPS Lakeshore Hospital, the webinar provided valuable insights into managing stress during these challenging times. Dr. Xavier PJ's expertise in the field of psychiatry added weight to the discussion as he delved into various stress-relief techniques. His presentation shed light on effective methods to cope with the psychological impact of the pandemic.
