On Behalf of WORLD IPR DAY National Webinar On IPR - Focusing On Copyright And Trademark
On April 29, 2023, a National webinar on the topic "IPR-Focusing on copyright and trademark" was conducted by the PG Department of Microbiology in association with IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell). The webinar was organized in celebration of World Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Day. The session commenced with a welcome speech by Ms. Resna NK, Head of the Department, PG Department of Microbiology, GEMS Arts and Science. Ms. Jamseera Rosini, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Microbiology, introduced the guest speaker for the webinar. The lecture was delivered by the esteemed guest, Dr. S. Mohandass, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, PSG College, Coimbatore. Dr. Mohandass is an experienced and skilled lecturer who has worked in several institutions. He is also a member of the Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists and the IQAC committee for NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). During the webinar, Dr. Mohandass delivered an interesting and informative lecture. He provided insights into various aspects of intellectual property rights, particularly patents, copyright, trademark, and geographical indications. He supplemented his explanations with relevant examples, which facilitated the participants' understanding of the content. Dr. Mohandass also emphasized the importance of IPR in one's career, prompting the participants to contemplate the need for safeguarding intellectual property. Following the lecture, there was an interactive session where participants had the opportunity to engage with Dr. Mohandass, asking questions and seeking clarifications. The session proved to be beneficial as participants actively participated, further enhancing their understanding of the subject matter. Finally, the webinar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shijili, a student pursuing S4 M.Sc Microbiology. She expressed gratitude to all the organizers, the guest speaker, and the participants for their active involvement in making the webinar a success. Overall, the webinar on "IPR-Focusing on Copyright and Trademark" provided valuable insights into intellectual property rights and their significance in various domains. The guest speaker's expertise and the interactive nature of the session made it a fruitful experience for all the participants. About 67 participants were present in the session.

MENDELEY WORKSHOP- AN ONLINE WORKSHOP
On 20.05.2023, the PG Department of Microbiology, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized an online workshop on Mendeley Reference Manager. The workshop aimed to familiarize postgraduate (PG) students and faculty members with the features and functionalities of Mendeley, a popular reference management tool. The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Resna N K, Head of the Department, PG Department of Microbiology.The online workshop commenced at 10:30 am with participants joining via the designated video conferencing platform. The event started with an introduction to the workshop's agenda and an overview of Mendeley by Ms. Resna N K. She highlighted the importance of efficient reference management in academic research and the advantages of using Mendeley.Ms. Resna N K provided step-by-step instructions on how to download, install, and set up Mendeley on different operating systems. She demonstrated the process of importing references from various sources such as databases, websites, and PDF files. Participants were guided through the organizational features of Mendeley, including creating folders, adding tags, and searching for references. The workshop also focused on managing PDFs within Mendeley, including the ability to highlight and annotate documents. Ms. Resna N K emphasized the collaborative features of Mendeley, such as sharing references and collaborating on projects with colleagues.Furthermore, participants were introduced to the citation and bibliography generation capabilities of Mendeley, which can significantly simplify the process of citing sources in research papers and generating bibliographies in different citation styles.Ms. Resna N K concluded the workshop by addressing common troubleshooting issues and providing useful tips for maximizing the efficiency of Mendeley.The workshop witnessed active participation from both PG students and faculty members. Participants were encouraged to ask questions and seek clarifications throughout the session. Ms. Resna N K responded to the queries and provided additional insights to ensure a comprehensive understanding of Mendeley's functionalities.
