WEBINAR ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
PG Department of Applied Geology in association with IQAC conducted a webinar Research Methodology on 16th May 2023. The resource person of the session was Mr. Bisweswar Sahoo, Research Scholar IIT Bhubaneshwar. He mentioned that research methodology refers to the systematic approach and techniques employed to conduct research effectively. It encompasses various stages, from identifying research problems to analysing and interpreting data. He gave a comprehensive overview of research methodology, including its significance, key components, and commonly used methods and techniques. He also discussed the significance of research methodology that plays a crucial role in ensuring the validity, reliability, and credibility of research findings. It provides a structured framework for conducting research, enabling researchers to achieve their objectives systematically. The proper application of research methodology enhances the quality and integrity of research, making the findings more valuable and reliable. He explained commonly used research methods through his session. He mentioned that research methods and techniques vary depending on the nature of the research, objectives, and data requirements. Some commonly used methods include Surveys where one collects data through questionnaires or interviews administered to a sample of participants. Surveys provide quantitative or qualitative data depending on the survey design. Another technique mentioned was interviews where one-on-one or group interviews are conducted to gather in-depth qualitative data. Interviews allow researchers to explore participants' perspectives, experiences, and opinions. Observations also is another technique where one observes and records behaviour, events, or phenomena in natural or controlled settings. Observations can be participant-based (researcher involved) or non-participant-based (researcher observes from a distance). Experiments, case studies and content analysis also include other common techniques in research. He also mentioned that ensuring research quality and validity is another important factor in research methodology. Maintaining research quality and validity is essential to ensure the credibility and reliability of research findings. Researchers should consider the factors like. Reliability, Validity etc. Through the session he gave a complete overview of research and its methodology. Twenty four participants were present.
