PERAVOOR GRAMA PANCHAYAT, KANNUR-RURAL COMMUNITY CAMP
The PG department of Social work and Sociology of GEMS Arts and Science college, Ramapuram organized community living camp in association with Vibrant Community Action network (VCAN) for first semester MSW students of batch 2022-2024 at Peravoor Gramapanchayath, Kannur. The community living camp was held from 19th October to 25th October2022. Students were divided into six permanent committees and four-day committees for the effective, timely functioning of the camp. Camping site was set in Sree Janardhan LP school, Melmurungodi and activities were mainly focused in the tribal colonies of Peravoor panchayath. The camp was officially inaugurated on the first day of the camp 19thOctober by Peravoor gramapanchayath Vice President Smt Nisha Balakrishnan. Inauguration was held in Edappara tribal colony at 10.30 AM. Ward member of the respective colony Ms. Renjusha felicitated the programme. The camp was a perfect experience for the trainees to mould the professional social work in themselves and to stepdown into working field and community. Trainees’ cooperation with the rural community settings, limited resources and the teamwork paved a good role in the meeting of assigned objectives and completion of the camp in a professionalway. The camp also ignited the spirit of trainees to do better as social workers. A total of 24 trainees participated.

PRA CAMP – LISSAH COLLEGE KAITHAPOYIL, KOZHIKODE
A three-day PRA workshop was organized under the leadership of PG Department of Social Work and Sociology, Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram for final year BA Sociology students and first year MSW students of Gems College participated in the PRA workshop held at Lissah College in Kaitapoyil from 26th to 29th August 2022. Participatory rural appraisal is a citizen-centered method of development, which aims to empower communities by engaging local residents in the processes of identifying issues, implementing solutions, and monitoring evaluation. The first day of the workshop started at 2 pm. Participated in a photography exhibition organized by the NSS unit of LISSAH college. A lot of interesting and rare photography was seen there. After that, a session on PRA was held under the leadership of PRA trainer Mr. Shaiju. Then, after the ice-breaking session, the project and its components and life cycle were explained. Then the evaluation session was held in the presence of PRA trainer Mr. Rijilesh, Mr. Arun sir and other teachers. The second day of workshop started with recapitulating the topics already taken. After that the trainees got a session on project cycle management, top-down and bottom-up approach & strategies of project identification. The trainees then had an effective session on PRA tools, after that the trainees got a field experience where they applied the tools by dividing themselves into groups, each group following a tool. The trainees also got a session about problem tree analysis. After that the trainees had a brainstorming session by Mr. Rejilesh. Late the day was concluded by the evaluation session. The third day begin by synopsizing the topics of other days. After that the trainees had the presentation of PRA tools followed with the presentation of problem tree analysis. Later the trainees got an informative session on the steps of project proposal which started with an activity .After that the valedictory session was held and honored our resource person and others. Later the trainees conducted a cultural program and the day was concluded with the evaluation session.
